Drilling in Alaska is Biggest Religious Issue of our Time
Read Article
Posted: Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 1:47 am
by Rabbi Aryeh Spero What political debate more than any other today tests one's belief in God and the Bible? Reciting "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance? No. The display of nativity scenes during Christmas season? Still, no. It is our drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. For this issue boils down to whether we place real human needs over the lifestyle patterns of animals, in this case, the caribou. It revolves around the fundamental biblical assertion of where God placed human in His cosmic design.
Left Allows Europe to Fall to Muslims

In a recent interview, Professor Bernard Lewis, famed historian and leading expert on Islam, warned that "Muslims seem to be about to take over Europe." The irony is that this takeover -- be it in 10 years or 30 -- is not because Islam has more tanks or better missiles than the Europeans. It is because the minority Islamic populations already living within Europe are making demands to Islamize Europe and no one seems to be willing to say no. No one has the political will to announce to the Islamic communities that daily life and laws in Europe must be in accord with the Western outlook that is Europe's heritage.
Why No Outcry Against Islamic Demonstrations Demanding Our Death?

By Rabbi Aryeh Spero All of us have seen them. Islamic demonstrators here and in Europe raising aloft posters proclaiming Death To Infidels, You Will Submit To Islam, Holocaust Coming To The West (against Christians and Jews). Newly arrived in Western countries, these protestors are advocating the murder of the non-Moslem citizens in our countries that are hosting them. Yet there is no outcry against them and no effort to ban these calls for murder, nor police brigades ever ready to imprison those so audaciously urging co-religionists toward the hoped for bloodbath.
Why Do Liberal Media Despise Our Soldiers?

Every six months or so, the liberal media search for any story that casts our soldiers in a bad light. Abu Ghraib was portrayed as indicative of almost the entire U.S. Army when, in fact, it consisted of less than 1/1000 %. Besides which, in the scheme of possible war atrocities, it doesn't even rank. It was more uncouth behavior than atrocity. As soon as a scenario is found where our soldiers defended themselves from enemy fire, road bombs or check-point crashing cars, the media indict our boys, without first considering the circumstances which necessitated the shooting response. Guilty! Guilty until proven innocent.
Tired Of Farrakhan and Friends Condemning America

by Rabbi Aryeh SperoLouis Farrakhan, leader of America's Black Muslims, said the other day at what he calls the Black State Of the Union Address that "America Should Burn." Well, Minister Farrakhan -- actually, Imam Farrakhan -- if you don't like it here, why don't you take your torch and live somewhere else. The same goes for Rev. Wright, "Barama"'s Chicago pastor.
San Francisco's War Against Our Values

The Board of Supervisors for San Francisco schools voted a while back to cancel a long standing tradition of army personnel coming to high schools to teach formative skills. This vote didn't receive the same coverage as did Berkely when its town council voted against the presence of marines in town. Frankly, San Francisco is a Berkely in-the-making. Unlike ROTC in colleges whose purpose is to recruit or at least have on campus a center available for those wishing to learn about and enlist in the armed services, the decades-old San Francisco high school program is simply about teaching leadership skills, done so by those whose real life experience has made them highly suitable for such an enterprise.
Patriotism Means Service, Not "Dissent"

By Rabbi Aryeh Spero With fewer liberals than ever enlisting in our armed services or serving in command positions, liberals have redefined Patriotism to mean “dissent,” protesting against U.S. policy. Why? Because that is what liberals do.They criticize their country and moralize to their countrymen. They are generally not policemen, firemen or soldiers. They are “above” the rest of us. But dissent is not service. Dissent, a right guaranteed, has become in some circles a form of personal gratification. However, though I have, for example, a right to eat, my eating is not an act of patriotism. Patriotism is service; and the act of denouncing one’s country simply serves one’s personal need to be heard.
Neo-Paganists Ignore Human Misery, Choose Caribou

The Dow has plunged nearly 15% signaling a possible recession and many economists contend we are already in the early stages of one. No doubt the sub-prime credit debacle and the housing bubble it created are very much at fault, but so is the fact that oil rose to $100 per barrel.  Such high energy costs for gasoline and home heating fuel have forced many consumers to halt spending and many manufacturers are finding it tough to make a profit. Some Americans will lose their jobs. Those who have jobs will find it difficult to spend on their family when so much money must be set aside for transportation to work.
Buchanan’s Upper West Side Allies

Who would have thought that the views of Pat Buchanan, for years the Left’s political enemy #1, would now find resonance on Manhattan’s Upper West Side? This confluence affirms the old adage that ultimately the extreme right and extreme left merge on the political circle. [Special to Caucus for America, September 2004]
Ms. Magazine Likes Only Certain Women

The American Jewish Congress sent an ad to be run in Ms. Magazine featuring three women in Israeli political life who have broken through the glass ceiling. The organization thought that a woman's magazine calling for complete enfranchisement of women would be eager to highlight in its pages an ad showing that enfranchisement has indeed happened, in Israel. Pictures of Israel's President of  Supreme Court, its Vice Prime Minister, and Knesset/Parliment Speaker -- all women -- were to be placed under a heading " Women in Israel". To the amazement of the AJC, Ms. Magazine refused to run the ready-to-be-paid-for ad because, as it said, "it would set off a fire storm" and that "there are very strong opinions" on the matter.
