Rabbi Aryeh Spero, January 2021
Almighty God, we come to You in this time of murkiness and ask that You grant us illumination and the ability to see things clearly. Powerful people and thundering forces, — both seen and hidden – are pounding patriotic citizens. They declare: “You must not believe what your eyes have seen ; you must believe that which did not happen.”
Your servant Isaiah prophesied: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light; and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter…” and make impure wholesome, and wholesome as impure.
Riots that we all saw this past summer we are told did not happen; and what we saw, they insist, was but “peaceful.” A President who did not call for insurrection or the overthrow of our government is, we are told, guilty of having done so…and must be impeached. Failure to agree with the on-high-opinion-makers results in punishment; those who follow their honest conscience are ostracized. Help us dear Lord resist this verbal coercion so that we stay true to the truths that we know.
Father in Heaven, Master of the Universe, protect this nation, this America, from those who ruthlessly and cruelly condemn half of our population and demonize love of country, love of God, family, and our Founding Principles as something evil and racist.
America has been a nation devoted to you, God, and Americans have placed You first. We ask You to not let our spirit dwindle and let us not succumb to those who would make us forfeit the truths that we know. We ask that we not, God forbid, become vassals to their ambitions of control and absolute Power. For Power belongs not to them, rather to Thee, Creator of the Universe and Creator of our endowed rights.
